In Part 1 of this series I mentioned that the most frequently asked question at The Acupuncture Wellness in Los Angeles CA is “How does acupuncture work?” I further mentioned that the answer depends on what you are treating and that acupuncture needles do one of the following:
1. ACUPUNCTURE NEEDLES AFFECT THE MUSCLES AND TISSUE THAT NEED TREATING DIRECTLY.
2. ACUPUNCTURE NEEDLES PROMOTE OR INHIBIT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM.
How does Acupuncture work in treating Uterine Fibroids? In the case of uterine fibroids, some needles will be inserted directly around the perimeter of the fibroid on the lower abdominal area. This will help relax any hypertonic muscles via the trigger point release mechanism as discussed in Part 1. Relaxing muscles and tissue facilitates circulation to the area, which will help break apart adhesions caused by fibroids. This process greatly assists in pain relief and restoring full range of motion. This can render the fibroids to be asymptotic.
Since fibroids and related symptoms may increase with hormonal imbalances caused by stress and anxiety, other needles will be placed strategically to relax the central nervous system taking it out of the stress mode and putting it into the mode of optimal homeostasis. This allows hormones to balance and will contribute to necrosis of fibroid tissue. Clinical evidence show that acupuncture and herbs are 94.1% clinically successful in treating fibroids. Fibroids less than 5 cm in size have a greater chance of being resolved 100%.
Combined with herbal prescriptions, therapeutic exercises, stress management and dietary suggestions, acupuncture can offer a lasting natural and surgery free cure for uterine fibroids.
